Weekend Update

  • Jul. 21st, 2008 at 8:39 PM
me and Bill Nye the Science Guy
I don't even know where I am on updating this. Let's seeeeee.......

Quote of Last Week: "Life is a jigsaw puzzle, he told me. The joy and challenge of life - and the Bible - is figuring things out. 'If a jigsaw puzzle came numbered, you'd return it to the store.' Same with life." - A.J. Jacobs, The Year of Living Biblically

5 things that happened last week:

1. Monday morning it rained (a light drizzle) and the Metro newspaperman outside of Port Authority was singing "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head." It wasn't a bad performance either!

2. Random exchange with stranger No. 3,245: (waiting for the elevator)
Random Stranger (RS): Is it 5:00 yet?
Me: It's 4:58?
RS: Oh my GOD! Oh my GOD!
Me: (confusion)
RS: So how was your day?
Me: Good.
RS: I am so bored here. What do you think of the office space?
Me: It's getting better as they continue to fix it up.
RS: You work for the media company?
Me: Yeah.
RS: You write?
Me: I write and edit.
RS: OHHHH, I love writing. Writing is my thing. When I took my college exam test, they passed me right through to literature.
Me: Wow! (I have no idea what that means.)
RS: What do you write about?
Me: Toys. We do another magazine about...
RS: You like writing about politics?
Me: Uh, no. I don't write about politics and I don't really want to.
RS: Oh.

During this time, we got on the elevator and then finally got off and I went on my way.

3. Got bubble tea with Danae on Wednesday. Man, that stuff is good.

4. Tuesday I went to a press event on Toys R Us and they gave me a cookie that was delicious and it looked pretty too because it had these silver balls along the edge of the cookie. But the silver balls were not edible and I felt that it really defeated the purpose because why put something inedible on the cookie, especially in this day and age where EVERYTHING is edible in some way. So I had to throw away the silver balls, but believe me, if they hadn't been all icing-ed, I would have tried to take them home as scrapbook embellishments.

5. Let's talk Project Runway from last week. This may be spoiler-ish to some, so I apologize in advance. First off, I liked how they brought the show around to its first season as a way to celebrate the show being on for five years, but really... when you make a dress out of corn husks, what else is there to do a second time? And WHY WHY WHY WHY was Blayne allowed to stay? His outfit was disgusting and it wasn't even an outfit. It just looked like he sewed some stuff together and called it a day. There was no real effort to create a cohesive look. At least trash bag lady and the nightmare raincoat guy ATTEMPTED something that was WEARABLE. Whatever. I support nightmare raincoat guy being voted off because yeah... none of his stuff looked good at all. Plus, he totally turned me off during the episode when he mocked everyone else for using tablecloths and whatnot by saying, "I would throw that away!" Then what the heck are you using, dude? Because he literally named every item at the grocery store as a no-no. Weirdo. Can't wait to see who gets auf'd this week!

AAAAAAAAAAAAND weekend update:
Friday Mike and I went to see The Dark Knight. It was great!! And our theater was practically empty. So that was nice. I thought the beginning of the movie was a little fast and confusing. But once we got into the main plot... WOW.

Saturday we went to Coney Island for the Siren Music Festival. Got to get in the ocean for a bit!! Yes! And got to look at all the creepy people on the beach. Three overweight men in speedos and then one guy who just got too lazy for any swimwear and showed up in his Fruit of the Loom briefs. BRIEFS people. COME ONNNNNNNNNNNNN. Ugh.

Sunday Mike and I went to church at The Journey for its Dark Knight sermon. And then when we got on the bus to go back to Jersey, we were stopped outside the Lincoln Tunnel because the outbound lanes were closed due to "police activity." Still don't know what that meant, but we were delayed for almost 30 minutes. Once we got home, we went to Mike's parents' house for awhile, grocery shopped, made dinner. It was HOT outside. Bleh. Is it September yet?
